“Thank you Internet”

Is anything more fun than an Internet overnight success story, especially the kind where someone plugs away for four years before overnight happens?

Long story short: Bongo Comics, Matt Groening’s comic book company, is hiring me to do the pencils for a short manga-style Simpsons comic. Also, I’ve been contacted by 20th Century Fox. They want me to do work for them somehow. I might get a design job for the upcoming new Futurama series!

An artist by the name of spacecoyote has her collection on deviantart, including some Simpsons and Futurama fan drawings done in anime/manga style. It’s picked up on Digg, and voila.

It took me 4 years to get over 70,000 pageviews, and I’ve gotten over 100,000 page views in the past 3 days. That’s crazy. My Simpsons and Futurama pics each have twice as many page views as my deviantART account, thanks to being linked to by sites such as digg.com (1, 2 — I haven’t read their comments but I bet they all hate me for bastardizing such beloved shows) and ABC News Australia’s Arts & Entertainment section. I am so busy with commissions now.

I also like this one. It’s the Simpsons a la Initial D.

(Thanks to Andy Patrizio of Internetnews.com, who pointed to this story on a mailing list.)
